The Bible is packed with amazing miracles and healings that occurred by the hand of God. The Old Testament is loaded with wonderful recounts of unbelievable conceptions, men being brought back to life, Jonah in the belly of a whale, and the calming of raging seas. Today, when we read the books of the Bible many wonder where are the miracles in today’s world? There are many who are struggling with infertility, suffering with multiple miscarriages, find themselves beaten and broken in a fallen marriage or fighting a long, hard battle with a serious illness. Often it is in these times when our faith is tested, and we have to make a choice to believe in miracles even when the cards are stacked against us in every way.
It wasn’t long after my eighth miscarriage that I started experiencing severe arm pain. From my neck, through my shoulder blade and running down the span of my right arm, I was enduring a level of pain that at any given moment would bring me to tears. I remember the day I woke up in pain, I convinced myself I must have slept wrong and torqued my neck, so I had a massage that led to life going from bad to worse. I ran to the chiropractor and got an adjustment which only seemed to intensify the pain. By the end of the week, two of my fingers went numb. I winced all the wy to our family physician who gave me some medications and urged me to come back in 10 days if the pain had not resolved.
That next week and a half were the longest of my life, and I was miserable as the pain kept getting worse. Forget about sleeping. While everyone in my house were getting their zzzzz’s, I experienced a burning and severe shooting pains that went beyond my pain tolerance. By the time I returned to the doctor, my arm was smaller than the other and hurt so bad I thought maybe they could just amputate it. An MRI revealed I had a piece of disc that broke and lodged into my spinal cord. The doctor said this was causing my right arm to die. A day later I am in a neurosurgeon’s office being counseled that I needed immediate surgery, and within 48 hours I endured a spinal cord operation that left me flat on my back for upwards of two months.
It had been explained to me that the minute I woke up, I was going to feel total and complete relief. My arm would be back to normal. But I was the one in a million who experienced a terrible side effect where when I woke up, I was in more pain than before. Doctors concluded my nerves were inflamed and aggravated, and with some time, they would settle. The first eight days after my surgery are a blur. The pain was so intense that I kept being prescribed more and more narcotics and pain killers. I barely remember the days, and any memory of the nights all center around intense throbbing pain.
Post surgery, day nine, my parents expressed concerns that I was being over medicated and worried I was in deep trouble. I remember laying there praying. I spent quite a bit of time that day in worship and in quiet time with the Lord. I heard a voice confirming my parents fears, and I was warned to stop taking all pain medication. I continued to pray. I had Scott make me an appointment with the surgeon for the next morning where they did x-rays to make sure there was not something wrong in my neck. Once they concluded things were fine, I explained that I wanted off all pain medicine. The doctor looked at me like I was crazy, but I knew I had to obey.
Later that evening, in agonizing pain as the medicine is now all wearing off, I was watching Daystar as our pastor comes on Thursday night. Sid Roth’s It’s Supernatural just started, and this particular episode featured Renny Mclean of Global Glory. He was discussing that where there is worship, God comes forth. He was talking about how to begin experiencing signs, wonders and miracles. I was enthralled with him. I clung to every word. I found myself with my arms raised to God, my Healer, when suddenly Mclean said there was someone watching with electricity running along the spine that was experiencing complete healing. I started to cry. I knew in my heart that this was a prophetic word for me, and I claimed it in the name of Jesus! I am still teary eyed when my husband walked in the room. I told him I’ve just had a word from the Lord that I would be okay. Scott looked at me like I was a total nut job. But as he sat and looked at the television screen, there was the word again! This time it was said by Sid Roth. Someone with back and neck pain was just healed! Scott looked at me and I at him, and we gave thanks, praise and glory to God.
That night I couldn’t sleep. First I wondered when this healing was going to occur? Would it be sudden or over a period of time. I kept thinking of what had happened, and seemed to quietly talk to God for hours. At some point, I must have fallen asleep because I awoke when the sun was high in the sky the next day. It must have been within seconds of waking up when I noticed that there was no pain in my neck. hallelujah! There was also zero pain shooting across my shoulder blade. Amen! My right arm had relief down to the elbow. Praise God!
It is important to me that I obey God. And it was definitely a test of my faith stopping all pain medicines that the doctors said I needed to heal and trust God. That morning I rejoiced over the words Renny Mclean and Sid Roth spoke. I thanked God for his ability to perform miracles. I was experiencing miraculous healing… just like those in the Old Testament.
Every morning, my condition improved more and more. It seemed like an inch of my arm would be healed every morning. Within a week, I was pain free. Within six weeks, the numbness in my fingers went away, and I was completely healed. Reflecting back now, I realize that what I share with Daniel in the lion’s den and Jonah stuck that great whale is a desire to be obedient to God and a willingness to earnestly pray and listen to His word.
Have you experienced the miracles God has in store for you? Do you believe this is possible? If not… I ask you to take out your Bible and read Exodus 15:26 which guides you step by step on how to experience the amazing protection the Lord provides. “If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you… For I am the LORD who heals you.”
